Are you guilty of saying ‘competitive salary’?
Employers should be more transparent about salaries and avoid using ‘competitive salary’ when advertising jobs if they’re looking for the maximum number of applications. A recent survey in the UK found that 78% of respondents said they would be less likely to apply for a role where the salary range was not shown. 22% of respondents said they would only apply for a role if the salary was listed.
The survey included 2,000 working adults and 252 hiring managers for their views on salary transparency. Secrecy of salaries has been a factor behind gender and ethnicity pay gaps globally.
Giving job seekers access to the relevant information at the time of application could maximise the number of applications and help attract a wider pool of applications during an ongoing labour shortage.
